Foundational Feeder - Do You Have One?

No matter how many feeding stations you have in your yard, it's important to have one that is the foundation of them all. This station should include at least one feeder that does not have to be filled very often. This gives birds a reliable food source and ensures that you'll have more birds to watch! Here are the criteria:

  • Contains a reliable source of food that attracts 80% of local seed and nut eating birds.
  • Can feed many birds at one time.
  • Can last four days or more.

Why is it important to have a Foundational Feeder?

  • To have at least one feeder that does not have to be filled up very often.
  • If feeders are empty between fillings, the birds will not be as constantly active as at a feeder that dependably provide food every day.
  • This is the most important feeder to place where it is easy to see from your windows and is easy to reach and fill.

Whether you are just walking by the window, fixing dinner, washing dishes, or watching TV, you are sure to get a quick bird sighting every time you glance outside at the constant activity at this feeder.

The WBU Eliminator is a perfect example of a foundational feeder.

This combination of a WBU Recycled Classic with a WBU Recycled Catch-a-Seed Tray is another great option.
